A variety of career resources are suggested by CAN; they are updated regularly.  Casual visitors to the CAN website are welcome to peruse these links as part of their self-guided career management plan.

As part of the CAN-facilitated job search package,  these resources function like a textbook – they support and enhance the work we do collaboratively.  These links are just a sample of the resources offered to Career Acceleration Network clients  as part of the coaching, counseling, and career planning process.

Career Management Tools

JibberJobber.com is a cool online career management tool and database designed to make managing your campaign easier by staying organized, prepared, and connected.  Karen P. Katz has entered into a partnership relationship with JibberJobber founder, Jason Alba.  The partnership makes it possible for CAN to offer premium-level JibberJobber service to clients who opt-into the CAN monthly subscription plan.  Keep track of Jason Alba’s LinkedIn, Facebook, and JibberJobber workshops through the CAN blog and calendar.

Regional Business News and Trends

Business Journals – Whether you live in Philadelphia or another metropolitan area throughout the United States, the American City Business Journals provide information useful to any job search campaign.  Read the Executive Summary to keep-up with business activity in your city; review the People On the Move to grow your network;  check the Business Calendar for events and meetings in your regional labor market.

WSJ Career Journal – Executive career site of the Wall Street Journal. People in business have long relied on the WSJ for global business news; you can also expect to find articles and blogs related to careers, education, and work/life balance. The WSJ prints management and professional job postings, identifying positions that are available in many industries, with emphasis on sales, marketing, finance and technology.

Philadelphia Inquirer – The Delaware Valley’s premier newspaper includes an excellent Business Section. Be sure to consult the Monday issue for “People in the News” and the Business Calendar.

Fast Company is dedicated to reporting about how the “fast companies” (entrepreneurs, IPO’s, and high-tech cutting-edge businiesses ) are doing what they do. Publication is oriented toward “Generation X and Y,” therefore it is very helpful for Baby Boomers who want to keep pace with current trends, books, etc.

Business Week – Major print magazine offers free online access to daily news; specialty sections are also available to online subscribers.  This weekly magazine (print and online)  is a great one-stop-shop for those looking to familiarize themselves with  what is happening in their field and in the world of work.

Fortune Magazine – Business and Financial news; excellent features on topical issues; special sections.

Career & Vocational Assessment

Self Directed Search – Online assessment based on the work of Dr. John Holland, whose six categories are the basis for most of the career inventories used today.  Your SDS report can help you to understand more about yourself and how your individual skills and interests are related to your career choice.Your SDS report will also give you recommendations about how to proceed through your career development and decision-making process.

Search Engines – Job Listings

Indeed.com is a consolidator of Job Boards – no need to visit multiple sites or maintain several accounts. You’ll find it easy to use the Advanced Search feature of Indeed.com to target your searches and receive useful job alerts based on several job titles or keywords. This site is clearly written and is updated frequently.

Philadelphia Area and National  Non-Profit Organizations
Idealist.org – National source for internships and jobs in the NGO and nonprofit world.  Local sponsor of career and job fairs – CAN is a frequent panelist and contributor.

OpportunityNOCs- National online Internet source of nonprofit jobs and career opportunities.  Recognized by About.com as the #1 site for nonprofit job search (Sept. 2009).

Greater Philadelphia Cultural Alliance- All types of jobs in the arts and culture industry.
